Emerald Guitars "Solace" Carbon Fiber Weissenborn-Style Lap Steel
Emerald Guitars "Solace" Carbon Fiber Weissenborn-Style Lap Steel from Justin Johnson's personal collection.
This baby is a triple threat, it has the beauty, the tone, and the history that make it a serious player or collector's dream. First off, the carbon fiber body is polished to a liquid shine, and the royal ebony veneer top adds and organic soul and natural vibe to the aesthetics. The design is more than just beautiful, the carbon fiber construction makes this guitar incredibly strong, durable, and resistant to temperature and humidity extremes; so you never have to worry about this guitar like you would a wooden-bodied instrument.
For electronics, this lap steel boasts a Graphtech Ghost Piezo System with adjustable saddle pieces that each contain individual piezo pickups in them. This allows you to get a perfectly balanced and articulate tone when plugged in. Tone and volume wheels are concealed tastefully inside the decorative f-hole.
The Weissenborn-style design is completely hollow (including the inside of the neck) which creates an exceptionally large resonant chamber. This contributes a large, warm, round tone that sounds amazingly balanced with the articulate high-end that you get from the carbon fiber body.
In addition to being a lap-steel players dream, this guitar also comes with some serious collectibility for Justin Johnson fans! Justin used this guitar on the tracks, "Dark Solace," and "Bagman's Balm," which were featured on his album, "Bootleg Series Vol. 6: End of the Highway." You can see and hear this lap steel in action in the videos below!
